IBPS Clerk Exam Pattern And Selection Process

IBPS Clerk exam is conducted in two phases, namely, Preliminary and Main. The prelims are conducted only to shortlist candidates for the Mains exam. Final selection is based on a candidate’s performance in the Mains examination.

IBPS Clerk Exam Pattern For Prelims

The IBPS Clerk Preliminary examination has three sections. The number of questions and marking scheme for each section are tabulated below:

The duration for the IBPS Clerk prelims exam is 1 hour. The three sections aretimed separately. Candidates will have to finish each of the sections within 20 minutes.

Candidates must clear the cut off for each section in order to appear for the Main exam.

The total number of questions, as well as the time duration of IBPS Clerk Main exam, are tabulated below:

Each of these sections have been separately timed, which means there is separate time allotted for each section and candidates must finish off each of these sections within the allotted time.

IBPS Clerk Exam Pattern: Negative Marking

In both prelims and mains, for every wrong answer, a candidate will lose one-fourth or 25 percent of the mark assigned to that question. However, there is no negative marking for questions not attempted. Candidates must prepare properly and take a lot of IBPS Clerk mock tests so that they do not lose out marks.

The following are some of the most frequently asked questions about IBPS Clerk Exam Pattern:

Q: Can I appear for the Main exam without clearing the Prelims?

A: No, you have to clear the Preliminary exam to appear for the Mains exam.

Q: Is the marks of Prelims considered for final merit listing?

A: No, only the marks of Mains will be considered for the final merit listing. Prelims are conducted only to shortlist candidates for the Mains.

Q: Is the exam conducted bilingually?

A: Yes, except the English language section, all other sections will be available bilingually – English and Hindi.

Q: Is there any negative marking in IBPS Clerk exam?

A: Yes, for every incorrect answer, a student will lose 1/4th of the allotted marks for that question.

Q: Is there a separate cut-off score for each section?

A: Yes, each section has a separate cut-off score. Candidates must clear the cut-off score of each section in order to qualify for the next phase of the exam.

Q: Is there any interview for IBPS clerk?

A: There is no interview round in IBPS Clerk, a candidate should get qualified mark in Prelims & Mains to clear the examinstion.
